Water Forum series 3, meeting notes #12 *************************************** 7-November-2010 ~ wf12-7nov10.txt WATER ~ CLIMATE ~ STV/MMP The Save Our Water Forum on sustainable water use, of 7 November 2010 - held at the Workers' Educational Association, 59 Gloucester St in Christchurch - resolved to meet again after one month to continue planning for future information and election campaign work. NEXT MEETING: Sunday, 12 December 2010, 3-5pm at WEA Christchurch. All welcome. The six people who attended on 7 November discussed several aspects of the current environmental and community nexus. There is much to do and much being done by many people and networks, that we can connect with and support - the forum whiteboard notes pix have kindly been made available by John Veitch here: http://www.ate.co.nz/Tindall/ As noted, new values need to be established to chart the course towards sustainability - around both Social and Environmental resources. Best practise land-use, stewardship concept and revitalisation of the social contract and 'the commons' were recommended as means, which need to deliver both economic and environmental quality of life and resilience. As our group formalises, we will reach out to the related networks around us. Emphasis was placed upon the Canterbury Public Issues Forum - http://forums.e-democracy.org/groups/canterburyissues - Linked In (etc social networking) and Street Groups as key alternative media for the engagement of greater public sustainability debate (versus mainstream unsustainability). * Please establish CPIF etc user accounts and communicate there often! We resolved that a "Water Forum" title was too limiting for the wider campaigning task ahead, and are proposing that "Sustainable Canterbury" is a better name for the objectives of a WATER + CLIMATE + STV/MMP conservation campaign. A draft charter for Sustainable Canterbury is now available upon request, and everyone enquiring out of interest may also choose to join a new mailing list - for initiating Sustainable Canterbury organisation on 12 December. From 12 December, therefore, Water Forum panui may be suspended.
